Scouts

1st Lisburn Scout Group is locally part of the Lisburn District and internationally part of a worldwide Movement which has over 28 million members in over 216 countries. We are currently in our eightieth year having been founded in September 1924 – initially as part of the Belfast District.

The aim of Scouting is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. We do this in many different ways to make our meetings as much fun as possible. For example, over the last 12 months we have camped, gone on winter night hikes, been visited by wild animals, taken part in district football competitions and sports days, received training from St John Ambulance Brigade, baked and made crafts. We have raised funds for camping equipment by abseiling down a quarry in the Mournes and also, through a variety of activities, raised funds for the Scouting movement in Malawi. 1st Lisburn Scout Group is currently enrolling girls as well as boys.
